Lebanon Bids For Sixth Relays Title At Canonsburg By PAUL A. KURTZ The steadily improving Mt. Lebanon hon, track rids field squad will seeking sixth consecutive, championship Saturday in the seventh annual invitation relays. meet at Canonsburg dium. Last Saturday, Coach Donley Mollenaur's Blue Gowern Gowern Devils lost their Tri-State Track Coaches Assn.

outdoor title to the Penn Hills Indians. This meet will be sponsored solely Cano n-McMillan High School with its track. field mentor, Joseph Gowern, serving as the director. Mt. Lebanon didn't compete at Canonsburg in the first Relays in 1958 when Central Catholic of Oakland was the champion.

Indications are the Central Vikings, piloted by Bro, Frederick William, will make a determined bid to gain their second title. Aliquippa and Brownsville are also considered top contenders. The Canon-McMillan Relays were instituted 1958 James Banner, the school's by. former coach and now assistant track-field mentor at Pitt. Banner was succeeded at Me Gowern, a graduate of Canonsburg High and California State College.

Director Gowern nounced that 26 schools are expected to be represented in Saturday's relays. They include Mt. Lebanon, Allquippa, Ambridge, Beaver Falls, Brownsville, CanonMcMillan, Central Catholic, Chartiers-Houston, Clairton, Hopewell, Peters Township, Fort Cherry, Freedom, McKeesport, gah ela, Moon, South Hills, South Hills Catholic, Trinity, Union town, Washington, Beth-Center, Butler Area, Monessen and East Palestine, Ohio. In the 1963 Canon-McMillan competition, Mt. Lebanon gained only five first places but scattered points over 12 events to achieve the title.

The Blue Devils led with 72 points, trailed by Aliquippa with 53 and Central Catholic third with 50. Gowern stated, the trials will begin promptly at 9:15 a. m. with the afternoon program starting at 1 p. The officials will be principally the same as last year including: Bill Brown, meet referee; Bruce Allen, Allegheny High, starter; Al DeLucia, clerk of course; John Ross, head timer; Rocco Manzo, head judge; Anthony Paesano, head field judge; Alex Smith, announcer; Anthony Chermer, field caretaker; and Manuel Pihakis, athletic director.

Assisting Gowern will be Guy Giordano and Nick Kapottas. Meet officials will assemto review assignments and rule changes at the Canonsburg Knights of Columbus headquarters at 8 p. Friday. In Catholic Baseball League action tomorrow afternoon, Mt. Oliver St.
