A hot brush can be used to style your hair into a salon-style blow-dry at home.

Most come with a round brush attachment for a voluminous blow-dry and some from premium brands, including the Dyson Airwrap and Shark FlexStyle, come with curling and straightening attachments.

If you can't decide between the two, we've rounded up some of the key differences below.

  • PriceThe Dyson Airwrap is the most expensive hot brush we've tested. We've rounded up the best deals on the Dyson Airwrap if you're looking to save some money on it.
  • AccessoriesBoth come with curling barrels that catch the hair and curl it, while finishing drying at the same time. This helps with the often tricky task of wrapping your hair around a hot curling barrel. The Dyson Airwrap barrel has a nifty rotation feature that quickly switches the direction of the curl. The Shark FlexStyle has two barrels, so you'll need to switch them out depending on which side of your hair you're curling.
  • SettingsBoth hot brushes have three temperature and speed settings, so you can tailor them to what achieves the best style for your hair type. They also have a cool-shot button, which can help to set your style to prevent it dropping throughout the day.
  • WeightYour arms can get tired while styling, which is why we weigh each hot brush with its round brush (the most popular attachment with our testers). The Shark FlexStyle is the heavier of the two, which is worth keeping in mind if you have long, thick hair that takes longer to style.

Our panel of testers with hair types from 1 (straight) to 4C (tight afro curls) put the Dyson Airwrap and Shark FlexStyle to the test. Read our reviews of the best hot brushes to see how easy they are to use for different hair types.

Dyson Supersonic vs Shark SpeedStyle

The Dyson Supersonic and Shark SpeedStyle hair dryers are premium hair dryers that claim to dry with minimal heat damage.

We assembled a diverse panel of testers with a wide range of hair types, from 1 (straight) to 4C (tight afro curls), who put both hair dryers, plus many others, to the test.

They rated the hair dryers for styling, drying and ease of use, so we can tell you if they're worth paying more for.

Whereas the Shark SpeedStyle has a round brush that attaches to the hair dryer for a more traditional bouncy blow-dry.
  • SettingsBoth hair dryers have three temperature and speed settings, so you can adjust them to suit your hair type.
  • WeightWe weigh each hair dryer we test to see if your arms will start to ache when holding it above your head. The Dyson Supersonic is slightly heavier, but not significantly so.
